Aug. 14, 15 and 16 is a great weekend for music festivals in Colorado! For those who are hailing from the foothills or the Boulder County region, Folks Fest in Lyons is definitely worth checking out. This low-key festival, featuring internationally-known songwriters, is celebrating its 25th year and is a favorite of Lyons locals and outsiders alike.
The festival gates open at 10 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday to a day of continual folk music that lasts late into the night. Celebrated performers such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jason Isbell and Gillian Welch are only a few of the numerous acts to hit the stage. Don’t forget to see who will be crowned the 2015 champion at the much-anticipated songwriter competition.
Festivities don’t end with great music, though. Vendors featuring a variety of food and beverages will be available for attendees to enjoy throughout the weekend. Children are also welcome to explore the kids’ area, where they can participate in fun crafts, play on the beach and engage in nature and outdoor activities.
While you’re packing your bags for the weekend, remember to bring plenty of sunscreen, blankets or chairs for seating and of course lots of water. Be sure to leave alcohol, video recorders and all furry friends at home. For all inquiries on what else is permitted along with more festival details, visit https://www.bluegrass.com/folks/.
