It’s that time of year again, when our neighbors up North host the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days. This event has been going on for over 100 years and attracts the professions top performers who compete for cash and prizes worth over $1,000,000, not to mention big name bands and lots of great people!
A two week long event, Cheyenne Frontier Days offers plenty of rodeo excitement for all to enjoy. In fact, 2012 marked the 9th consecutive time it has been honored with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Large Rodeo of the Year award, dating all the way back to 2004. Each session includes all nine events, ensuring that each spectator gets to see all the action. Catch the behind the scenes action on the Behind the Chutes Tour, which offers a look at how the bulls and broncs are rounded up and loaded up into the chutes, finishing off with a walk through the arena. All rodeos will start at 12:15pm and will include pre-shows that start at 11:30am, so be sure to get there early as to not miss any of the excitement!
Needing a break from the action or maybe you want to do a little dancing? Well stop by the Buckin’A Saloon! Open every day from 11am to 12am, you can enjoy live music at 5pm, 7pm and 10pm, beer specials and nightly concert ticket giveaways.
While it may be known mostly for its rodeo action, there’s more than bull riding, barrel racing and calf roping. If you’ve never been you might not know that there is an art show, pancake breakfasts and a carnival. The art show will showcase paintings, sculptures and carvings from over 60 of the country’s top western and animal artists. Join thousands of others at 7am on July 22nd, 24th and 26th for a free pancake breakfast, where you can enjoy fresh flapjacks, ham, milk and coffee at Cheyenne Depot Square. The Carnival Americana will be on the scene from July 19th through July 28th, offering up the classic carnival rides and games you grew up with.
Some of the biggest names in the music industry will be making stops at Cheyenne Frontier Days to perform. Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakam, Rascal Flatts, and Toby Keith are just a few of the headliners that are scheduled to perform during the two week event.
