Just because GABF has come and gone doesn’t mean that the awards are done being passed out for the year. There is no set beer festival season and the All Colorado Beer Festival finished up its 7th year just a few weeks ago. One of Northern Colorado’s newest breweries, Black Bottle Brewery, and one of its most well known, New Belgium, were able to claim top honors at this year’s festival!
Black Bottle Brewery, at 11 months old, brought home a shiny gold medal for its American Red, Ginger. The beer, described on their draft list as “The beer with no soul”, was entered into the Amber, Red and Brown Ales category and found itself on top after three and half hours of deliberation and judging. Dark crystal malts present a toasty caramel sweetness in this beer that is then balanced out by its aromatic hops. And while Ginger is the name there is in fact no ginger involved in this ale whatsoever. We’re sure this won’t be the last of Black Bottle Brewery’s award winning beers, as they are still new to the brewery scene and picking up steam.
New Belgium, a longtime Fort Collins staple, created another award winning beer with their Rampant Imperial IPA. This imperial IPA, introduced this past February, pours a beautiful copper color and offers up an intriguing citrus and floral aroma. Stonefruit and citrus flavors are well balanced through the use of Mosaic, Calypso and Centennial hops and the dry finish from the hop combination keeps you sipping it until it’s all gone. Congrats to New Belgium on another fine beer.
Keep up the good work!
