On April 19th and 20th FoCoMA (Fort Collins Musicians Association) will be holding its annual event, FoCoMX (Fort Collins Music Experiment), an event that celebrates Northern Colorado musicians and their music.  FoCoMA, a non-profit organization, provides Northern Colorado musicians with educational, supportive and networking opportunities.  This organization is put together to help inspire and support the creative minds of local artists and at the same time generate awareness of the great work that are being created.

This two day event takes place at 24 different venues all over Fort Collins and includes a lineup of over 240 bands and/or musicians for your listening pleasure.  For $30 you’ll be able to enjoy some of Northern Colorado’s well known bands like Mama Lenny and The Remedy, Fierce Bad Rabbit and The Patti Fiasco.  But this is a great opportunity to check out some of its best kept secrets like Daniel Ondaro, Samuel Mouton and The Holler! 20th Anniversary Commemorated with an Ale

As always, the anticipation of Opening Day began many excited days and weeks in advance but this year there was more than just baseball to be excited about.  The Colorado Rockies and Blue Moon Brewery released their 20th Anniversary Ale on Opening Day to commemorate their 20th year of professional baseball in Colorado!

Blue Moon Brewery has been in existence since the 1995 Colorado Rockies season and in fact the very first batch of Blue Moon was created at the brewery located in the right field concourse at Coors Field.  Who knew that it would turn into such a hit!? (Pun intended).  To commemorate the second decade of Colorado Rockies baseball, Blue Moon’s brewmaster, John Legnard, put together the 20th Anniversary Ale for beer and baseball fans alike.  Using Abbey malts and a combination of domestic and import hops, Legnard created this easy drinking Amber Ale.  Perfectly crafted for an afternoon or evening baseball game, this limited release beer surely won’t disappoint.

Prior to the April 5th release, Blue Moon Brewery and the Rockies reached out to fans to help come up with a description.  From March 15th to March 28th fans of legal drinking age were able to submit their own descriptions for a chance to win a private tour of the brewery located in Coors Field with head brewer John Legnard, a commemorative tap handle and two tickets to a home game.  Given a handful of guidelines and a few keywords, this is what the winning contestant came up with…

“Like Cargo’s sweet swing, Blue Moon’s 20th Anniversary brew is uncommonly smooth and easygoing.  It’s a refreshing Amber Ale built with all the right players, home-grown and imported hops and Abbey malt.  Just as 1993 was the exciting start of a love affair with the Rockies, 2013 is the year to enjoy the beginning of a new beer tradition for the ages!”

There’s a catch though, the 20th Anniversary Ale can only be enjoyed while catching a game at the ballpark.  So, next time you’re at a Rockies game be sure to catch this awesome beer at one of the many Blue Moon stands around the park!

Introducing for the first time ever, Rolle Bolle!

It’s no longer just a game, it’s now a craft beer too!

New Belgium has released its brand new seasonal beer, Rolle Bolle.  Named after the popular Belgian backyard game, this beer is here just in time for the warm summer days that are fast approaching.  The New Belgium crew took over Road 34 last Monday to officially release their new creation to the market.  As guests entered and handed over their invitation they were rewarded with two tokens, each good for one free beer of their choice.  Live music kept everyone’s feet moving as they discussed their first thoughts of the game inspired, Rolle Bolle.  New Belgium has a knack for throwing great parties and this one was no exception!

As you pour Rolle Bolle into your glass you’ll notice the light bodied summer ale has a beautiful blonde color to it.  Lifting the glass to take your first sip you’ll catch fruity and citrus aromas in the bouquet coming from the use of monk fruit and soursop in the brewing process.  Target, Cascade, Amarillo and Centennial hops have all found their way into this easy drinking beer, adding to the tropical tones found within and help give it a slightly tart finish at the end.  Add all these characteristics up and you’ve got yourself summer in a bottle.

While you won’t find Skinny Dip and Somersault on store shelves this year, Rolle Bolle will do a great job filling in for them.  Find it at a location near you or stop by the New Belgium brewery and enjoy one while playing a game of rolle bolle on their court just outside of their Liquid Center!
